Since I am a honey lovers, I started to pay attention to the honey offered at hotels, mainly breakfast. Surprisingly, in relatively expensive and reputable hotels, there is no real honey but a substitute, and if it is not a substitute, honey has no indication of its origin. Still, there are hotels where real honey is available. And not only real, but also one with preserved nutritional and healing qualities – honey without fine filtration. Such honey can be tasted in the eco-hotel “Zdravets” at 15 km. from Plovdiv to the Rhodope Mountains. I was pleasantly surprised that alongside the cheese, milk, local products, they offered a very tasty Bulgarian honey for breakfast. If you ask, they will even tell about the history of this honey. Such information I doubt can give you even in most 5 star hotels. What’s more important than our food?

We offer the 5 tips of the Honey, how to find out the origin of the honey and whether the restaurant manager selects the food he offers to you, your guests:
- Find out what plant the honey is.
- In which region of Bulgaria (or the world) there is an apiary where the honey comes from.
- Are there different types of honey in the restaurant, as there are different types of cheese for example.
- If a honeycomb is available, it is important to find out whether it is entirely made of bees or that it has been placed in an artificial wax-based base previously.
- Ask if there are honey desserts to prepare for the dessert after dinner 🙂
If they can answer at least 2 of these questions, then the restaurant takes good care of your guests.
